Fire Curtains
Certified fire-resistant barriers providing rated compartmentalisation where traditional construction is not feasible.
What Fire Curtains Do
Fire curtains are active fire protection barriers that deploy automatically when triggered by fire detection systems, providing rated fire separation to contain fire spread and protect escape routes.
Unlike fixed partitions, fire curtains remain concealed until needed—allowing open-plan designs while maintaining fire compartmentalisation required by building regulations.
FUEGUARD fire curtains are tested to EN 1634-1 and carry CE marking, providing verified performance data for integrity (E) and insulation (I) classifications.
Use Cases
Fire curtains solve specific fire engineering challenges across diverse building types.
Atrium Protection
Contain fire within an atrium or prevent fire from spreading to connected floor levels. Fire curtains deploy at floor openings to re-establish compartmentalisation during an incident.
Escape Route Protection
Protect corridors and stairwells from fire and smoke penetration, maintaining tenable conditions for building occupants during evacuation.
Large Openings
Cover wide openings between spaces that cannot accommodate conventional fire doors—conference centres, exhibition halls, retail frontages.
Escalator & Lift Enclosures
Provide fire separation around vertical transportation systems without requiring permanent enclosure that would impede accessibility.
Performance Ratings
FUEGUARD fire curtains are available with the following fire resistance ratings, tested in accordance with EN 1634-1:
| Classification | Integrity (E) | Insulation (I) | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| EI 60 | 60 minutes | 60 minutes | Standard compartmentalisation |
| EI 120 | 120 minutes | 120 minutes | High-risk areas, extended evacuation |
| EI 180 | 180 minutes | 180 minutes | Critical infrastructure, phased evacuation |
| EI 240 | 240 minutes | 240 minutes | Maximum protection requirements |
| E 60–240 | 60–240 minutes | — | Integrity only (with water spray systems) |
Note: Specific ratings depend on curtain configuration. Contact our technical team for project-specific recommendations.
